GARDEN ON THE ROOF – The Secret of Mr. makeAwish
COME TI CHIAMI?
DI DOVE SEI?
CHE COSA MANGIARE?

"Wishes, regardless of their size, are a part of life’s memories." – Lü Ying-Chang
The inspiration for the exhibition Garden on the Roof comes from a photograph taken during my studies in Italy and an astronomical event in 2017.
Through my window, I could see the houses of my neighbors, sometimes exchanging smiles and greetings. At night, I would gaze up at the sky, imagining the view from a rooftop filled with stars—a continuation of nighttime reveries, whispering wishes and dreams of the future. Looking down at the garden below, I saw life moving in its endless cycle.
Three installation pieces symbolizing "rooftops" are presented in blue, white, and green, depicting different gardens while also carrying the three most common phrases I heard in my daily life in Italy:
"Home is not just a shelter; it is a place for wishes and dreams to recharge." Garden on the Roof represents a spiritual extension—a microcosm within a rooftop, offering a resting place for each person’s life memories.
"Wishes, regardless of size, represent the goals we strive for at different stages in life. Some are for ourselves, others for our loved ones. Making a wish is like extending a secret—it becomes a part of our life's memories."
Wishes are like the secrets of Mr. makeAwish. In the garden, wish birds, rabbits, teddy bears, and ducklings symbolize hope, innocence, courage, and freedom, guarding this sacred space while awaiting everyone’s wishes.
The work Godzilla’s Garden – The Great Journey draws inspiration from the 2017 astronomical phenomenon Oumuamua, a celestial object whose Hawaiian name means "scout" or "messenger from afar." This enormous interstellar traveler symbolizes an unknown and challenging future.
Other works in the exhibition are inspired by observations of everyday life and the recording of wishes—like puzzle pieces of reality and imagination, each wish infused with poetic meaning and interpretation.
Through the Mr. makeAwish series and various wishing cards, the exhibition reflects different desires within people's hearts—whether it’s obtaining a long-dreamed-of item, discovering a cure for troubles, or embarking on an adventure or love story.
