Owning a Wishing Coin

Fashion designer Jamei Chen founded JAMEI CHEN · Corner, creating a brand-new artistic lifestyle experience in collaboration with artist Lü Ying-Chang!

Imagining the floor-to-ceiling window space as a corner of a cosmic garden, the exhibition features an improvised composition of white garden lines, conveying both the eternity of overlapping spaces and the ever-changing nature of life—lines are eternal, while life is constantly evolving.

In the latest JAMEI CHEN · Corner exhibition, artist Lü Ying-Chang draws inspiration from "Eternity Garden", aiming to create an immersive experience where visitors feel surrounded by a flourishing garden.

When Contemporary Art Meets Fashion: An Infinite Source of Creativity and Surprise

At a charming corner in Daan District, Taipei, a unique space quietly stands—JAMEI CHEN · Corner, founded by renowned fashion designer Jamei Chen. Like a hidden sanctuary in the city, this space invites everyone to stumble upon an unexpected and delightful experience.

Stepping through the glass doors adorned with white garden-like lines, visitors enter a mirrored space where artworks and reflections endlessly extend. Sunlight casts shadows of the flowing lines, creating a surreal interplay between reality and illusion. In one corner, African wishing birds and a golden leopard—symbols of hope and protection—merge seamlessly with the installation. Moving deeper into the exhibition, visitors will discover a wishing pool, representing a cosmic garden. Created by artist Lü Ying-Chang, this interactive art project offers visitors a unique moment to pause, make a wish, and receive a handcrafted wishing coin—a memento of inspiration and wonder.

Lü Ying-Chang transforms earthy sculptures into metallic forms, preserving childhood symbols of courage and adventure—a bear and a rabbit—as if freezing memories in time.

“Does eternity exist? In the moment you experience something beautiful, eternity seems to recognize you…”
– Artist Lü Ying-Chang

A One-and-a-Half-Month Solo Exhibition (July 3 – August 15, 2024)

For this exhibition, Lü Ying-Chang presents the “Wishing for a Wishing Coin” interactive project, transforming the way people experience and own art. The goal is to integrate fashion, art, and culture into everyday life, making them part of a shared memory in a relaxed and joyful way.

Fashion Meets Art: Make a Wish in JAMEI CHEN · Corner’s Eternity Garden

Exchange a wishing coin, and let beauty follow you.

During Lü Ying-Chang’s studies in Italy, he often stumbled upon ancient wishing fountains, where people would casually chat or silently whisper their wishes. This inspired him to see fashion as a form of aspiration, much like art—a continuous pursuit of beauty and progress.
“Looking at the coins in those historic fountains, I had an idea—what if wishes could be carried with you? I wanted people to feel their dreams accompany them at every moment, through a wishing coin.”
– Artist Lü Ying-Chang

About the Artist

Lü Ying-Chang is not only a contemporary artist but also one of Taiwan’s leading collectors of African tribal art. His bold use of color and intuitive linework reflects the influence of African tribal aesthetics. His works are often filled with mythological symbols, such as gardens, arks, wishing pools, and Mr. MakeAwish—all central motifs in his artistic world.

This marks Lü Ying-Chang’s first solo exhibition, where he debuts his “Metallic Clay Sculptures” alongside the “Wishing Coin Exchange Project”. The exhibition also features African tribal sculptures, including the Wishing Bird and Golden Leopard, symbolizing eternity and protection.

By blending sculpture, painting, interactive art, site-specific installations, and African tribal art, this exhibition creates a cross-cultural experience. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in this journey and take home their very own wishing coin.

Art as a Meaningful Gift

“Art can leave a profound impact on every individual.”

Observations show that most visitors spend less than 10 seconds in front of an artwork. However, through the Wishing Coin Project, people linger longer, allowing art to become a deeper and more personal experience.

For this exhibition, Lü Ying-Chang has personally handcrafted each wishing coin, inspired by ancient Roman gold coins. Each one is unique, just like every wish and life experience.
